Horticultural Therapy

Horticultural therapy is an evidence-based method that is increasingly being implemented in health care facilities. It can be designed to support the return of lost or impaired abilities and skills, maintain or improve strength and endurance, and help adapt physical activities to significantly improve quality of life and work performance. Horticultural therapy helps people to intensify their own initiative as it is intrinsically motivated and often has a lasting positive effect even after treatment has ended (prevention). The work with plants is the basis of the method and is adapted according to symptoms and needs.

For the Love of Nature

It has been scientifically proven that just 3 minutes of occupation with plants is enough to feel more relaxed. Gardens and the plants growing in them, with their flowers, scents, shapes and the moods that change daily and seasonally, are known to have an effect on the well-being of people (Wilson, 1986). The effect of working with plants in a therapeutic-medical environment has been successfully investigated for over 30 years. Ulrich showed as early as 1984 that patients in hospitals with a view to trees had, among other things, shorter postoperative hospital stays and less painkillers than a comparison group.
